Conference of Medical Academic Representatives 2013

Open to members and non-members of the British Medical Association, the annual Conference of Medical Academic Representatives (COMAR) will take place this year on the 10 May 2013, at BMA House in London.

Any doctor employed at a higher education institution or other institution engaged in medical research, as well as pharmaceutical physicians, may attend the conference. Reasonable expenses will be covered for all representatives - for full details, please see the COMAR webpage.

The conference provides an opportunity for medical academics from across the UK to meet together to discuss key issues, share experiences and set priorities for the BMA's Medical Academic Staff Committee (MASC) for the coming year. The conference also elects sixteen members to MASC for the succeeding session.

There will be speakers and panel discussion members this year from the Research Excellence Framework, General Medical Council, Medical Research Council, Campaign for Science and Engineering, and Wellcome Trust.

Representatives at COMAR will be able to:

  • discuss issues of importance to the medical academic community
  • attend question and answer sessions, which will ensure each representative has their chance to ask about issues that matter to them and have them answered by experts in the field
  • participate in breakout groups, allowing them to discuss general issues of importance to medical academics.

Interested doctors may register to attend COMAR on the COMAR webpage. They may also submit motions for debate at the conference, and download nomination forms for the elections which will be held at the event.
